Compostable plastic is a plant-based material designed to break down naturally into non-toxic elements like water, carbon dioxide, and organic matter when disposed of in industrial composting facilities. Unlike regular plastic, it leaves no harmful residues behind.
02. What are bioplastics?
Bioplastics are materials made partly or entirely from renewable biological sources such as corn, tapioca, or other plant starches. Some bioplastics are compostable, like Biolyf products, while others are simply bio-based but not necessarily biodegradable — always check certification.
03. Can I recycle compostable bags?
No — compostable bags are designed to be composted, not recycled through traditional plastic recycling systems. Mixing compostable plastics with conventional recycling can contaminate the recycling stream.
04. How long does it take compostable plastic bags to decompose?
